Nychelle Thompson, MA

Resident in Counseling

Clinical Background

From a young age, Nychelle knew she wanted to help others navigate life’s challenges. Now a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Resident in Counseling with over four years of experience, she finds joy and purpose in supporting adolescents, adults, children, and couples as they work through obstacles and rediscover fulfillment. Nychelle’s dedication is deeply rooted in her belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued. She specializes in helping clients address concerns such as low self-esteem, adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, interpersonal challenges, and stress. Additionally, Nychelle has worked with individuals navigating ADHD, acute stress, and issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

Nychelle’s passion for empowering teenagers and young adults is at the heart of her work. She understands how significant life transitions, like moving from middle school to high school or preparing for higher education or a trade, can impact self-esteem and confidence. She is committed to walking alongside her clients during these pivotal moments, providing the support and tools they need to embrace their next chapter with confidence and clarity.

Nychelle earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Hampton University and her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. During her graduate studies, she gained invaluable experience through internships at Hyland Heights Counseling Center and National Counseling Group, where she provided therapeutic services to children (ages 6-10), adolescents (ages 10-19), and adults. She also offered support to Liberty University students. This, combined with her diverse professional background, allows Nychelle to tailor her therapeutic approach to meet the unique needs of each individual she serves.

Clinical Focus

Nychelle’s therapeutic approach is eclectic, drawing from a variety of evidence-based practices to meet her clients’ specific needs. She incorporates cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), person- centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, and faith-based counseling into her practice. By blending these modalities, she helps clients uncover new perspectives, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. Nychelle’s approach is both compassionate and collaborative, fostering a safe and supportive environment for growth and self-discovery.

Nychelle believes that every individual’s experiences, emotions, and feelings contribute to their unique complexity. She is committed to helping clients embrace their individuality while addressing the challenges they face.
